Almost 4 years have passed since we rebranded Märked from an illegal rave into a platform to connect artists to audiences, and vice versa. 

Twenty, it now sounds like an enormous number. 20 artworks, more than 100 tracks and over a few million listeners. It’s been an interesting 4 years in which we built our own authentic space – thanks to all artists involved.

 

This 20th release milestone sees Amstra with a 5-tracker EP including a massive remix by Non Reversible. Acid Theory as EP title speaks for the tracks’ characters, for they all have acid elements.

Starting the EP with one of his best tracks – progressive and dynamic in the build up. The acid vibe reminisces to the sweeps in the better Boston 168 tracks – carefully crafted gems. In Euphoria the acid lines are more driving forward as does the rest. Euphoria is among the more effective club peak time tracks in the pack. Summer Of Rave does that job well too, but has a more cinematic thriller-movie approach. Not the kind of summer we are used to. In Talk To The Devil Tonight Amstra shows that he can build a break very well, playing tension and release to a big unexpected turn in the drop.

Non Reversible hits the remix hammer just right in his version of Acid Theory. Very powerful, rolling and pure heated dance floor atmosphere.

First track’s characteristics are something we see more often from VINYA; phat crunchy saw waves and voices in the left and right field to set you in a hostile trance. The almost serene rest in Caun is insidious, as you know it will come back to hit you again. A new born classic synth rhythm with overdriven waves done the right way in Caun, pushing you to the absolute limit. Enter the freight train with Tham for more hypnotizing and abstractness while Rezystor perfectly assembles Caun up to power 2 – hard to pick a favorite as they are both very effective.

Christmas has come early. Out with a bang, with arguably one of the best projects we ever put our hands on. Märked presents a 16-tracker album with some of underground techno’s most interesting and promising talents in current times. Handed in alphabetical order: new to the label is Amstra who starts off with a majestic synth sound and big kick-basses. Second in: Brecc doing what he does best by leading the track with distortion-loaded kicks and impactful rave synths. In CYNKT’s track you hear a contagious voice on the rhythm of the synth, beautifully packaged with piano’s and a pad. Both power and melancholy in Exilles’ Modul B14 with crispy doomsday synth stabs powered by delays for depth.

Also new is Kander, who chase the melancholic style too with an emotional fast-paced anthem infused with classic piano play. Metapattern goes into next gear in hypnotizing mode providing a churning bass-line and metallic squeeking. Pier is back on the label with less melodies like we are used to, but more straight-forward techno pounding. Our 18th release also sees Reveillon on the label who seek a balance between dub elements and a more classic old school approach to techno.

Going into to the obscure corner with Sleeps Everywhere , who brings a chaotic pumping track to the table with intense breakbeats weaved in. The addition of Anna Mikhailova to a Torgue track seems a seamlessly add-on to a techno performance for the absolute late (or very early) hours. Furthermore, a piece of art by Umbraid – Lost In Passion is full with emotion and speaks out loud the track’s title. Then RAL 9017 by Unart8 is a piece of dark techno you would encounter in one of Berlin’s nightclubs resulting in the whole building in combat mode.

VINYA’s Dagra will turn a dance floor upside down while churning synth lines build up the floor to maximum pressure mode. YÅ introduces a fat reversed bass reminiscing to the early hardstyle times of the beginning of the century, infused with big trance synths. Zimo – hailing from Hong-Kong – who is undoubtedly one of the lesser known artists on the line-up, but who’s track certainly is among one of the best. An upcoming all time classic with a melody that makes you reminisce to those special moments on dance floors. Close the album with a massive stomper by Znzl, who has mastered the art of weaving obscure sounds in with disruptive techno to break low energy moments.

First discovered through Ōtomo and played by Ghost In The Machine, but now it’s our turn to push Gilfoyle out there. It’s always an honor to promote artists from own soil, coming from a city that is not known for the sound Märked stands for.

Together with Kracht there’s Tanzofos. What we have here is a big warehouse kick drenched in punchy mid and low-mid frequencies. and metallic and squeaky sounds. We see this getting played at primetime.

Continuing the EP with title-track PCL, where Gilfoyle creates a ready to battle vibe. The contrast in the first minute, to where all the elements are at play is very much heard when swords make their entrance.

Iridium Flail hits with most grit and no fear for distortion knobs. An almost slowed-down hardcore-esque anthem with a dose of alarm funk caught from the synthesizer.

End the EP with the Havoc package; the original is really drilling and heavy on the industrial stabs. It’s the kind of track to make the transition to a second half of a dj-set in the later hours of the night. Falhaber’s remix makes for a really easy-going and danceable track, giving a lot of space to all of the elements. Not the sound that we know him for, but certainly interesting to have especially him contribute the lesser rawest track.

Sensive remixes Havoc at the higher pace of 140 BPM. It’s kept at sizzling speed by rattles of different kinds of percussion. By not totally sticking to what people see as an authentic remix concept, Sensive adds a new sound from a synthesizer and gives the remix what it needed.

Torgue’s signature sound back on Märked

Over a time span of almost 2 years where Märked grew as a label, as well has Torgue. He now returns to Märked for his third addition to the label with his signature sound of polished bleeps, screeches and intelligently crafted cinematic sceneries. Holding on to the aforementioned, Balance is exactly an example that identifies Torgue as a producer who had created his own trademark.

Putting sound systems’ mid ranges to the test

Invictus really hits with its big thumping kick. High-pitched metallic bleeps are arranged in a dreamy and fast hypnotic groove, while still putting sound  systems’ mid ranges to the test. When it drops after the break the track takes off on a dive flight alternating the earlier-mentioned bleeps with lower notes of arpeggiated synthesizer play.

Escape From Wonderland lives up to its name, but we like to say travel into wonderland as the track has a really dreamy and mellow vibe to it. The acid component leaves you hypnotized while the ever forward-driving percussion and low-mid bass parts keeps the trip at full speed. A future closing-track classic is born.

Full-blown live weapons and rolling basses by Ben Techy and CORROID

hasn’t appeared on the label for quite a while, but with this remix his
presence will be heard significantly. From a dreamy original track which is
also pretty tough, Techy takes it up a notch and molds Invictus into a
full-blown live weapon.

Sandpaper
scratching and voice-like humming adds more fire to the stove in this remix of
Invictus. CORROID gives new definition to ‘scary techno’ by creating an
atmosphere that could easily serve as a background sound in a horror game scene.

Hard as nails techno coming from Rotterdam, a city that houses no surprises in that particular corner of tough electronic. Death Field EP is a cold one, and distortion the rule rather than the exception. After previously having made a remix for SDB, AERT returns to Märked with a swing around your ears and a kick in the nuts.

Start the EP with clattering breakbeat pounding, shrill horns and chunks of laser drops in Obliterated Homicide. A sense of industrial machines at work is present in each of AERT’s tracks.

Deal With Your Problems keeps the industrial character, but here four to the floor is introduced, rushing with charged low-mid bass notes playing in between the hits of the kick. The metal and tough snares add to the eerie atmosphere to make it sound like a sonic punishment.

Let The Body’s Hit The floor could be played as slowed-down hardcore, but with more control and space. Threatening synths from the start and flaming percussion  is then later introduced.

Ready to burn stuff with Ike Dusk on the remix game. Underneath the kick there’s a nasty bass line clearly present, buried in heaps of sharpened percussion. Never a dull moment when Ike brings the shovels and spades.

Catching breath with Chêne’s remix of Obliterated Homicide as a perfect cool-down to the EP. Whereas the original version doesn’t necessarily have any melodic content but just straight on stabs and bleeps, Chêne introduces a catchy hypnotic, trance-inducing melody.

According to our statistics, most of our listeners are millennials: the people born in between 1980 and 2000. Sensive – who also grew up in the 90s – walks the same road and has also experienced the evolution of technology at a high pace, much like an invasion.

 

Also reflected in the urgency of his music, the direction of Sensive’s second EP is paved by the function of power and groove. Even though the EP as a whole is quite abrasive, the bridge to accessibility is present by each track having an understandable rhythm build with a lot of percussive elements.

Starting the EP with title track “The Millennial Mile”, a contagious funky bass line driven forward by multiple details of percussion. From the mid part onwards a synthesizer is used to have short stabs emphasize the synergy between the rhythm of the kick and bass.

 

In “Barricade” there is kick-pummeling and rolling sub-basses drowned in a whirlpool of a cold and rugged soundscape. Organic wooden percussion drives the groove forward at a clanking 134 beats per minute.

 

“Rinse And Defeat” has the most distortion going on but there’s also a lot of swing at play. Characterized by a churning bass-line this stomper is grounded in a timeless aesthetic with amplified screeches that would have a lot of warehouses’ sound systems turned inside out.

Known for his iconic tracks on Kulør and Ectotherm, also featured on the EP is an obscure remix by one of Copenhagen’s most interesting artists. Here DJ Ibon creates an enigmatic scenery and the outlining of a desolate atmosphere and vibe which makes for a perfect fit for the closing of a set.

 

Closing the EP with a SDB remix of “Barricade”. Next to his everlasting supply of funk, he is back on Märked with his signature sound by multiplying the sample of Sensive’s pad and remodeling it to something majestic we previously heard in his last release with us.

Shades Of Black EP is a transcription of our soul’s darkness in a different manifestation. Seen as some kind of lucid dream in which there is no way out and where you must face your scariest unconscious facets. Here the key words of self-comprehension are only chaos and despair. Introspection, self-reassessment and courage to face yourself represent what this four-part journey is about. Don’t be afraid to meet yourself and jump into your shades of black.

Parisian Dahlia is breaking through the early morning mist of France with his debut-ep on Märked. Spewing 4 powerful tracks influenced by EBM and a taste of new age industrial techno. The EBM cult of muscularity is heard through strokes of a whip on the 2 and 4, a characteristic arpeggiated synth and an obscure female vocal in ‘Enma’. These ingredients talk strength and punishment on the dance floor.

‘Shinigami’ – although having a similar programmed EBM snare – here benefits from more uplifting notes. Shinigami literally translates as God Of Death, of which the perception of the contrasting hard kicks and percussion to the leaning towards peacefully designed pad sound would come across as a calm a funeral for your own peace of mind.

Apart from the tracks all being peak-time bangers, Nibbãna has a more nuanced approach. After starting off with relentless power this piece develops into a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The soothing and majestic notes of the synthesizer create a timeless space in which thoughtful is mixed with aggression.

The mysterious DJ Varsovie appears as a remixer with a massive industrial breakbeat sledgehammer. Reverberated warehouse sounds are alternated with multiple salvo’s of kickdrum gunfire. The introduction of the vocal after the break cuts your favorite dance floor in half. Use this weapon with caution – only for the trained ear.

No stranger to the label is SDB, who previously featured on our 10th release and as well played at our label night in Amsterdam in 2018. Residing in the vibrant Saarbrücken in southwest Germany – the city where he wrapped up a package of 3 works. Each track for a different moment in time somewhere in between sound systems and concrete walls. To spice things up we have Repro and AERT – coming from respectively Copenhagen and Rotterdam – bring remixes to the table. All pushing a sound that works really well in the club without compromise.

A feeling of exploring unknown territory strikes down in Combat. The ominous pad breathes caution and really draws a melancholic character. From the beginning the track is searching for the right moment to punch the listener with it’s full power, the moment after the small break that is.

Kick-the-nuts AERT gives Combat a small injection of EBM with a snare on the 2 and 4. A big and masculine stereo synth hoovers over the track while cleverly being driven forward by a fast and mean low pitched synthesizer groove.

Restrepo is characterized by hypnotic piano play going back and forth through the height of the notes. Playing with tension and release with a lot of energy build on a steady base of groove as the filter on the synth gradually opens up as the track progresses.

Repro gives Restrepo a Copenhagen touch with more speed and grit. An extra layer of fast noisy texture is added for more hysteria, living up to the Full Throttle title.

Probably one of the biggest kicks hitting our catalog, SDB’s Symphony closes the EP in full effect. A big majestic trance-influenced break grabs you by the throat after which you are slowly lead into a deep dive of power techno at it’s finest; moving, forceful, energetic.

Kicks layered with distortion without losing power, grinding, crunching – all in ‘Screams Of Hate’, the EP title track of Märked’s new signees Dark Matter Space Assembly. The duo crosses borders for their collaboration; Billy comes from Breda in the south of Holland and Bart lives just over the border in Belgium. Their aggressive approach to electronic music comes from their industrial hardcore background, which is prominently heard throughout the whole package which features additional remixes by ArchivOne and Mickey Nox.

Secondly ‘That Kid Who Lost Himself To Gabber’ pushes things more forward with more beats per minute, fast arpeggiated notes and rattles. A golden formula to set any dance floor on fire is aggression and groove, of which both this track has.

Next is as merciless as how ‘That Girl Who Lost Herself To Flakka’ sounds. Bold and nasty hits from the undead taking it to another level with ridiculous teeth-grinding synth action in the second part.

ArchivOne gives TGWLHTF a Birmingham touch, leaving only huge slabs of unrelentingly minimalism for optimal effectiveness.

To round things off Green Fetish Records’ main guy Mickey Nox goes half breakbeat and half techno on his remix of ‘That Girl Who Lost Herself To Flakka’, by building the tension as the breakbeat progresses to a hasty two-step techno drop.
