Divided Attention could be an ode to realization that life happens when one is busy making other plans. To be able to be more efficient in our day-to-day lives, divided attention allows us to process and carry out multiple tasks at a time. In music however, different sounds – which can be seen as stimuli – are often organized in a rhythm and are subconsciously heard as one piece, the composition.","Kicking things off with Genesis Reading by evoking all kinds of dreamy imagery only to be fully straightened by a hard kick and punishing percussion. The harmony of sounds – of which the sneaky eagle-like sounding stab – makes you reminisce about dusty older times with hints to eurodance.","SDB brings to the table an engine driving on short synth notes, arpeggiated and amp’ed. Also here the track benefits from the vocals delivered by Pier: they add a sense of nostalgia. Moreover SDB’s signature touch is greatly heard in the continuation of the track, pushing the track forward with effectively tuned overdriven synth hits.","What directly catches attention of title track Divided Attention is the alarm synth hook that you can hear throughout the track. It’s one of those kicks and groove combinations that make you want to destroy something, but the feather light pad action makes you recall that.","JoeFarr throws things over a different angle with less haste, but more funk is brought to the remix palate. Lead forward by a masculine sound of accelerator-pressing of motor engines together with putting more heat on the stove by introducing metal pipes being incised.","Innocent but also cautionary of what’s to come in Reign Over Fury. Introspection, self-reassessment and courage to face yourself represent what this four-part journey is about. Don’t be afraid to meet yourself and jump into your shades of black.","Parisian Dahlia is breaking through the early morning mist of France with his debut-ep on Märked. Spewing 4 powerful tracks influenced by EBM and a taste of new age industrial techno. The EBM cult of muscularity is heard through strokes of a whip on the 2 and 4, a characteristic arpeggiated synth and an obscure female vocal in ‘Enma’. These ingredients talk strength and punishment on the dance floor.","‘Shinigami’ – although having a similar programmed EBM snare – here benefits from more uplifting notes. Shinigami literally translates as God Of Death, of which the perception of the contrasting hard kicks and percussion to the leaning towards peacefully designed pad sound would come across as a calm a funeral for your own peace of mind.","Apart from the tracks all being peak-time bangers, Nibbãna has a more nuanced approach. Organic wooden percussion drives the groove forward at a clanking 134 beats per minute.","“Rinse And Defeat” has the most distortion going on but there’s also a lot of swing at play. Characterized by a churning bass-line this stomper is grounded in a timeless aesthetic with amplified screeches that would have a lot of warehouses’ sound systems turned inside out.","Known for his iconic tracks on Kulør and Ectotherm, also featured on the EP is an obscure remix by one of Copenhagen’s most interesting artists. Here DJ Ibon creates an enigmatic scenery and the outlining of a desolate atmosphere and vibe which makes for a perfect fit for the closing of a set.","Closing the EP with a SDB remix of “Barricade”. An almost slowed-down hardcore-esque anthem with a dose of alarm funk caught from the synthesizer.","End the EP with the Havoc package; the original is really drilling and heavy on the industrial stabs. It’s the kind of track to make the transition to a second half of a dj-set in the later hours of the night. Falhaber’s remix makes for a really easy-going and danceable track, giving a lot of space to all of the elements. Not the sound that we know him for, but certainly interesting to have especially him contribute the lesser rawest track.","Sensive remixes Havoc at the higher pace of 140 BPM. Out with a bang, with arguably one of the best projects we ever put our hands on. Märked presents a 16-tracker album with some of underground techno’s most interesting and promising talents in current times. In this compilation you find a mix of artists who are more on the surface and some who are less, but all evenly contributing to an amazing program of diversity.","Handed in alphabetical order: new to the label is Amstra who starts off with a majestic synth sound and big kick-basses. Second in: Brecc doing what he does best by leading the track with distortion-loaded kicks and impactful rave synths. In CYNKT’s track you hear a contagious voice on the rhythm of the synth, beautifully packaged with piano’s and a pad. Both power and melancholy in Exilles’ Modul B14 with crispy doomsday synth stabs powered by delays for depth.","Also new is Kander, who chase the melancholic style too with an emotional fast-paced anthem infused with classic piano play. Metapattern goes into next gear in hypnotizing mode providing a churning bass-line and metallic squeeking. Pier is back on the label with less melodies like we are used to, but more straight-forward techno pounding. Our 18th release also sees Reveillon on the label who seek a balance between dub elements and a more classic old school approach to techno.","Going into to the obscure corner with Sleeps Everywhere , who brings a chaotic pumping track to the table with intense breakbeats weaved in. The addition of Anna Mikhailova to a Torgue track seems a seamlessly add-on to a techno performance for the absolute late (or very early) hours. Furthermore, a piece of art by Umbraid – Lost In Passion is full with emotion and speaks out loud the track’s title. Then RAL 9017 by Unart8 is a piece of dark techno you would encounter in one of Berlin’s nightclubs resulting in the whole building in combat mode.","VINYA’s Dagra will turn a dance floor upside down while churning synth lines build up the floor to maximum pressure mode. YÅ introduces a fat reversed bass reminiscing to the early hardstyle times of the beginning of the century, infused with big trance synths. Zimo – hailing from Hong-Kong – who is undoubtedly one of the lesser known artists on the line-up, but who’s track certainly is among one of the best. An upcoming all time classic with a melody that makes you reminisce to those special moments on dance floors. Close the album with a massive stomper by Znzl, who has mastered the art of weaving obscure sounds in with disruptive techno to break low energy moments.","Pre-order here","Release\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t13 January 2020","Mastering\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tJoe Farr Mastering","Artwork\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tDewi Gagliardi","Get notified first about new releases and promo's","Notify me"]},{"slug":"vinya-adar-ep-ft-tham-rezystor","cat":"MRKD019","artist":"VINYA","name":"Adar EP (Ft. The almost serene rest in Caun is insidious, as you know it will come back to hit you again. A new born classic synth rhythm with overdriven waves done the right way in Caun, pushing you to the absolute limit. Enter the freight train with Tham for more hypnotizing and abstractness while Rezystor perfectly assembles Caun up to power 2 – hard to pick a favorite as they are both very effective.","Purchase now","Release\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t26 February 2020","Mastering\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tJoe Farr Mastering","Artwork\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tRobin Beekman","Get notified first about new releases and promo's","Notify me"]},{"slug":"amstra-acid-theory-ep-ft-non-reversible","cat":"MRKD020","artist":"Amstra","name":"Acid Theory EP (Ft. It’s been an interesting 4 years in which we built our own authentic space – thanks to all artists involved.","This 20th release milestone sees Amstra with a 5-tracker EP including a massive remix by Non Reversible. Acid Theory as EP title speaks for the tracks’ characters, for they all have acid elements.","Starting the EP with one of his best tracks – progressive and dynamic in the build up. The acid vibe reminisces to the sweeps in the better Boston 168 tracks – carefully crafted gems. In Euphoria the acid lines are more driving forward as does the rest. Euphoria is among the more effective club peak time tracks in the pack. Summer Of Rave does that job well too, but has a more cinematic thriller-movie approach. Not the kind of summer we are used to. In Talk To The Devil Tonight Amstra shows that he can build a break very well, playing tension and release to a big unexpected turn in the drop.","Non Reversible hits the remix hammer just right in his version of Acid Theory. Exilles from Italy makes nowadays’ techno very interesting by always pushing an unheard sound, as their own. It builds up to a drop with an adventurous refreshing flute-sounding synth and polished chiseling percussion.","‘Primal Instinct’ is a track with more perceived speed and drive. Quick alternating synth hits are enriched with a progressing alarm – an alarm sound always wins on the dance floor.","Aahan’s premiere on Märked means trouble. Where did you grow up and how/when did you get into making techno music?","I grew up in Saarbrücken, the capital of Saarland in Germany. I got into producing techno at the age of 18 after experiencing it in the clubs of my hometown.","What does techno mean in the city you live in and how does that affect you? Would you like to see things differently?","The techno scene is very alive in Saarbrücken with many different capable artists coming up. It’s a great breeding ground for young performers.","How does your sound come together and where do you get your influences from?","I listen to a ton of electronic music of basically all genres that influence my sound, mainly techno and wave.","When composing: do you start with kicks and percs, write a melody or build a synth first? Is there anything you like making in particular, or get most satisfaction from?","I always start by building a kickdrum and a complete drum pattern from there, then I go to the synths.","What is your opinion on hardware versus software? What does your studio look like?","The two different things enable two completely different workflows that I both enjoy. I like to get lost in building complex patches and huge fx chains in Ableton, as well as just jamming on machines like I do in the “Aviron” project with my buddy Nils Iven. For my SDB productions I use Ableton and Max For Live with my Push controller, nothing else.","What was your idea behind the recording of the podcast?","The idea was to create a coherent mix of mostly unreleased own productions to build a unique sounding podcast."]},{"slug":"marked-series-014-jacidorex","num":14,"series":"Series","artist":"Jacidorex","title":"Märked Series 014 Jacidorex","date":"2018-06-26","art":"/media/pod/marked-series-014-jacidorex.webp","soundcloud":"https://soundcloud.com/markedamsterdam/marked-series-014-jacidorex","body":["Where all sorts of acid meets industrial techno to the point of new genre-defining heights.","Jacidorex from Brussels is a pioneer of Neoacid, which he describes as a mixture of all kinds of acid, industrial techno and even dark electro. In a small interview we speak to Simon about some hints of the past and the music he makes today.","Hey Jacidorex, tell us something about yourself. Where did you grow up and how/when did you get into making techno music?","I was born in Brussels and I grew up in Silly, a small town between Brussels and Lille. As long as I remember, I was always interested in music. I began to play the piano at the music school, then my soul mate Mehdi showed me fl studio, so I began to produce electro, dubstep and then drum&bass. In June 2013, after seeing Jeff Mills, Blawan and Len Faki at Dour Festival, I wanted to produce techno, but I wanted something a bit harder. A month after, I listen to Korps Mekanik Liveset of Mr. Gasmask for the first time. My unconditional love for acid & techno was born.","What does techno mean in the city you live in and how does that affect you? Would you like to see things differently?","The techno scene in Brussels is not that developed. There is barely any big warehouse. But we ‘ll try to work on this for the next few month/years.","How does your sound come together and where/who do you get your influences from?","I’m really influenced by Mr. Gasmask, Gesaffelstein and Dax J. I think that my music is situated between acid, techno,  hard techno but also dark electro or jumpstyle. I try to make hypnotic banging hard music with a lot of acid influences.","When composing: do you start with kicks and percs, write a melody or build a synth first? Is there anything you like making in particular, or get most satisfaction from?","I don’t have any rule for producing; it really depends on my inspirations. Sometimes I have a melody or a structure in my mind and I begin to write in on my software. Sometimes I try to make a new kick but finally I change the bpm and I do something really different. What I really get satisfaction from is to reach the ambiance or the atmosphere I had in mind. Actually, it’s really difficult to make sound what you have in mind like it sound in your mind.","What is your opinion on hardware versus software? What does your studio look like?","For me the best is to use it together and use the advantages of the two. Hardware has a unique sound and this analog  touch feeling. On the other hand, audio treatment like bass resampling of multiple automation are impossible with hardware, this is why it’s also really interesting to use software. It’s also essential to have a varied structure.","Your first more techno-based J. Rex alias release was on December 17th 2015, while Jacidorex was already around in late 2013. How would you say your sound and ideas have evolved since then?","I think my sound is more precise than before, and I’m better at doing progressive tracks. I also have a better sound design, but I still need to improve to make what I really have in mind.","What was your idea behind the recording of the podcast?","Showing the scene in which direction I’m going for the moment, because it’s been a while since I haven’t been releasing any podcast. I play a lot but I don’t release the quart of what I’m producing. I think I wasn’t ready. Now I’m about to be."]},{"slug":"marked-series-015-ike-dusk","num":15,"series":"Series","artist":"Ike Dusk","title":"Märked Series 015 Ike Dusk","date":"2018-07-17","art":"/media/pod/marked-series-015-ike-dusk.webp","soundcloud":"https://soundcloud.com/markedamsterdam/marked-series-015-ike-dusk","body":["Ike Dusk: over 15 years of experience put in 78 minutes of adamant techno.","In comparison to other countries in Europe, Germany seems to shelter a lot of artists who have matured in the techno scene. His current livesets in the clubs of Berlin, Paris, Beirut, to name a few of the cities he played this year, are full force rhythmic assaults, abrasive, rough and elemental. In 2017 he created the anti/techno concept, partly a label and platform to oppose against the corporate takeover of once underground music styles such as techno – where values like diversity, open mindedness, freedom (artistic and on personal levels) were the keys to in the first place get a music style like this started from nothing. Because of this, even deeper in the underground, the ‘golden coin’ of f.e. industrial techno is tossed around for a couple of years now, and gets the same treatment in more popular-oriented clubs, resulting also in a rise of new young producers who go full force into this ‘bastard-style’.  Some of the new producers are simply great, some don’t get the point.","‘Industrial’ does not mean solely ‘put a distortion on your drummachine’. Patrick Stevens was one of those first producers who started to incorporate noise and an anarchist industrial approach into dance music. Releasing on the infamous German label ant-zen, being part of the legendary Maschinenfest (from the start in 1999 up to 2018) in Germany, being coined as one of those people who started the whole rhythmic noise genre in the mid to late nineties, he brings a podcast for us which is not just a relentless 4/4 assault, but a mixture between atmospheres, from harsh to almost silent, but dark – presenting a selection which shows his personal history ever since 1992 up to now – a selection with a target: stimulate the listener to look around, and not just stick to the things you know and love.","The new full album by hypnoskull –‘the manichaean consciousness’ will be released in november 2018, on German ant-zen records.
